PRESBYTERIAN COLLEGE WOMEN’S SOCCER 
TO HOST WINGATE IN THE
FOOD LION/SAC TOURNAMENT FIRST ROUND ON WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON

CLINTON, S.C. — The Presbyterian College women’s soccer team will be the No. 3 seed in this year’s Food Lion/South Atlantic Conference Tournament and will host No. 6 seed Wingate University, Wednesday afternoon at 4:00 p.m. at Martin Stadium in a first round match.  The winner of Wednesday’s match will advance to Saturday’s semifinal against the winner of the Catawba College/Mars Hill College match. The SAC Tournament final four will be held in Salisbury, N.C. on the campus of Catawba College.

The Blue Hose (12-4-0, 5-2-0 SAC) have won five of their last seven matches including a 8-0 victory over Converse College last Saturday night. Earlier this season, PC defeated Wingate University 1-0 on the road back on October 8.  Tomorrow’s meeting will be the fourth match-up between the two schools in SAC Tournament action. PC holds a 2-1 advantage in the head-to-head meetings including a pair of 6-0 victories over the Bulldogs in the first round of the 1992 and 1994 tournaments. Last season, the Bulldogs upset the Blue Hose 3-1 to advance to the semifinals. PC holds a 19-9-1 all-time record in the SAC Tournament including winning back-to-back tournament titles in 1995 and 1996.

Admission for the SAC Tournament is $5 for adults, $3 for children ages 6-12 and $1 for college students with a valid ID.

Leading the Blue Hose this season has been the play of sophomore forward Megan Smith (Greenville, S.C.). Smith leads the team with 29 total points on 13 goals and three assists. She also leads the team with four game-winning goals. Freshman forward Claire Joyce (Aiken, S.C.) leads the team with six assists and ranks second in total scoring with 20 points on seven goals.

Defensively, senior goalkeeper Aimee Tatom (Irving, Tex.) leads the way with 7.0 shutouts and a 0.95 goals against average. Tatom has also tallied 37 saves on the season in 1,327 minutes of action. PC has allowed only 14 goals this season while scoring 41 goals themselves.
