PURCELL SIGNS THREE PLAYERS TO WOMEN’S SOCCER PROGRAM

CLINTON, S.C. — Maggie Carruth, Millie Green, and Erin Sinkuler have signed national letter of intents to play women’s soccer at Presbyterian College announced today by head coach Brian Purcell.

Carruth, a 5-5 versatile field player, is a native of Roswell, Georgia where she plays for Roswell High School and head coach Bob Rumble. This past season she helped lead Roswell to a 12-6-0 record and a semifinal appearance in the 5-A state playoffs.

During the club season she plays for the Roswell Santos club team and head coach Chad Liddle. Carruth was a captain last season for the Santos while playing center midfield, forward, and defender. She tallied 31 total points on 12 goals and seven assists while leading the team to a 5-3-1 mark and a second place finish at the Charleston Showcase Tournament.

" Maggie is a very versatile and experienced player,” said Purcell. “She could play almost any position on the field.”

Green, a 5-6 midfielder/defender, is a native of Columbia, South Carolina where she plays for Dutch Fork High School and head coach Justin Jones. She is a four-year starter for the Silver Foxes and helped lead the team to a 21-2 overall record, a #2 national ranking for the majority of season during her junior year while earning all-region honors. As a freshman, she led the team in assists and a quarterfinal appearance in the state playoffs. Green has 21 career goals and 16 career assists to her credit entering her senior season this spring.

She is also a member of the South Carolina Olympic Development Team and currently plays for the James Island Trident 18 team and head coaches Jim Himley and former Blue Hose women’s soccer standout, Heather Frederick.

“Millie is a hard working left midfielder or forward who adds an attacking dimension as a left-footed player,” said Purcell. “She crosses the ball extremely well.

Sinkuler, a 5-8 goalkeeper, is a native of Roswell, Georgia where she plays for Centennial High School and head coach John Drummond. Sinkuler helped lead Centennial to a 10-6 mark as a junior and helped the team this past spring to the subregion championship. During club season, Sinkuler plays for Roswell Santos and with fellow signee Carruth and coach Liddle.

“Erin fills a huge recruiting need for us,”  said Purcell. “She has the ability to come in and compete to start right away.”

Carruth, Green, and Sinkuler become the first signees of the 2004 Blue Hose women’s soccer recruiting class. “We are excited about the nucleus that this class will form for the future and what they can contribute to an otherwise very experienced team next year.”

The Blue Hose are coming off another successful season which saw them post a 14-6-0 overall and 5-2-0 record in the South Atlantic Conference regular season, good for second place tie with Catawba College. PC finished runner-up for the Food Lion/SAC Tournament championship and received an at-large bid to the NCAA Division II National Tournament. The bid was the fifth for the Blue Hose since the 1994 season.
