Semifinal #2 -- #3 seed Catawba College (15-1-2) vs. #2 seed Carson-Newman College(15-2-1)

Carson-Newman advances past Catawba 4-1 in penalty kicks

CLINTON, S.C. --  After allowing the tying goal in the closing minutes of regulation, the Carson-Newman Lady Eagles advanced to the Food Lion South Atlantic Conference women’s soccer finals with a 4-1 victory over Catawba College in penalty kicks on Friday night at Martin Stadium.

Catawba knocked in the game’s first goal in the 28th minute when sophomore Leigh Telzrow (Dallas, TX) knocked in a header off of a corner by senior Jennifer Lowe (Enfield, CT.).

Carson-Newman tied it up in the 68th minute on a goal by freshman Vicki Farquhar (Aberdeen, Scotland) which went through the Catawba goalie’s hands.

The Lady Eagles took the lead in the 78th minute when junior Jennifer Bock (Stevensville, MI.) took a pass from sophomore Rebecca Angus (Middlesborough, England) and knocked it past Catawba junior goalie Catherine Balentine (Charlotte, N.C.).

Catawba tied it in the 88th minute with an own goal.

In the penalty kicks, Carson-Newman goalie Melissa Terrell (Medina, OH.) made two big saves on the first two shots and the Lady Eagles capitalized on their owns shots to seal the victory.
