LADY BLUE HOSE FALL TO FRANCIS MARION 4-3

CLINTON, S.C. – Francis Marion University held off several shots in the last two minutes to hang on to a 4-3 victory over Presbyterian College in women’s soccer action Wednesday night at Martin Stadium.

The Patriots (3-2-0) jumped on the board in the sixth minute as junior Mollie Jones (Cincinnati, Ohio) put a shot just out of the reach of PC freshman goalie Brittany Pecora (Myrtle Beach, S.C.). 

Francis Marion made it 2-0 in the 23rd minute when junior Elizabeth Gallacher (Waldorf, Md.) found senior Cyprian Gillingham (Hollywood, Md.) open in front of the net for another goal.

The Lady Blue Hose (2-2-0) quickly pulled within one as sophomore forward Ginny Wolfe (Lexington, S.C.) scored just seven seconds later.

The Patriots made it 4-1 with two quick goals in the first ten minutes of the second half, the first by Gillingham in the 46th minute and the second by sophomore Ashley Fortune (Bothell, Wash.).

PC pulled within two goals in the 61st minute when sophomore Claire Joyce (Aiken, S.C.) found junior Megan Smith (Greenville, S.C.) in front for a goal.

The Lady Blue Hose added their final goal of the night as Joyce picked up her second assist to junior Brittany Nollner (Lilburn, Ga.).

PC will be back in action Saturday as they travel to Jefferson City, Tenn. to take on Carson-Newman College at 2:00 p.m.
