15, 2004 LADY BLUE HOSE FALL TO FRANCIS MARION 4-3 CLINTON,
S.C. – Francis Marion
University held off several shots in the last two minutes to
hang on to a 4-3 victory over Presbyterian College in women’s
soccer action Wednesday night at Martin Stadium. The Patriots
(3-2-0) jumped on the board in the sixth minute as junior Mollie
Jones (Cincinnati, Ohio) put a shot just out of the reach of
PC freshman goalie Brittany
Pecora (Myrtle Beach, S.C.). Francis
Marion made it 2-0 in the 23rd minute when junior Elizabeth
Gallacher (Waldorf, Md.) found senior Cyprian
Gillingham (Hollywood, Md.) open in front of the net for
another goal. The Lady Blue
Hose (2-2-0) quickly pulled within one as sophomore forward Ginny
Wolfe (Lexington, S.C.) scored just seven seconds later. The Patriots
made it 4-1 with two quick goals in the first ten minutes of the
second half, the first by Gillingham in the 46th
minute and the second by sophomore Ashley
Fortune (Bothell, Wash.). PC pulled
within two goals in the 61st minute when sophomore Claire
Joyce (Aiken, S.C.) found junior Megan
Smith (Greenville, S.C.) in front for a goal. The Lady Blue
Hose added their final goal of the night as Joyce picked up her
second assist to junior Brittany Nollner (Lilburn, Ga.). PC will be back in action Saturday as they travel to Jefferson City, Tenn. to take on Carson-Newman College at 2:00 p.m. |
