2004 Food Lion/South Atlantic Conference Women’s Soccer Tournament

Finals  -- #2 seed Carson-Newman College vs. #1 seed Tusculum College

Carson-Newman defeats Tusculum 3-2

CLINTON, S.C. --  Carson-Newman College scored two first half goals and one in the second and then held off Tusculum College to take home a 3-2 victory in the Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Tournament finals on Saturday night at Martin Stadium.

The Pioneers (14-4-1) took the early lead on a goal by freshman Courtney Hambel (Melbourne, Fla.) in the 24th minute.

The Lady Eagles (16-2-2) tied it up just a minute and a half later when junior Jennifer Bock (Stevensville, MI.) took a corner kick from sophomore Rebecca Nulph (Lebanon, OH.) and knocked it just out of the reach of the Tusculum goalie.

Sophomore Lindsey Farris (McKinney, TX.) gave Carson-Newman the lead in the 35th minute when she rebounded a deflected shot and knocked it into the net for a 2-1 lead.

Carson-Newman netted their eventual game winner in the 51st minute, when sophomore Claire Ramsdale (Birmingham, England) lifted a high shot that went through the Tusculum goalie’s hands and into the net.

Tusculum added their final goal of the night in the53rd minute when Hambel knocked in a shot off of a rebound.
