Brian Purcell Records Win No. 200 As PC Women’s Soccer Coach
Blue
Hose Defeat East Stroudsburg, 4-1
CLINTON, S.C. – Presbyterian was led by two Brittney Horton
goals in their 4-1 defeat of East Stroudsburg, but the real
story in the win was that the victory garnered PC head soccer
coach Brian Purcell his 200th victory at the helm of
the women’s soccer program at Presbyterian.
Purcell is in his 18th season at the helm of the Blue
Hose is the only head coach that the program has ever known.
Purcell, a 1987 graduate of Presbyterian, has the fourth most
wins ever in NCAA Division II women’s soccer history and is the
all-time leader in South Atlantic Conference victories in his
sport with 78.
To
commandeer the victory, Presbyterian scored all four of its
goals in the second stanza, as the Blue Hose and Warriors were
squared at 0-0 at the half.
Mille
Green
started the game’s scoring by acquiring her second
goal of the 2006 season 14 minutes into the second half.
A little over 13 minutes later, Horton solidified what would
become the contest’s game-winner by beating ESU goalkeeper
Samantha Marina to the right side.
Christy Howard continued the Blue Hose onslaught a few minutes
later by hitting a 20-yard blast into the left corner. The
Warriors recovered one of the goals not even a minute later, as
Samantha New beat Blue Hose goalkeeper Erin Sinkuler to set the
game at 3-1.
Horton concluded the day and placed an exclamation mark on
Purcell’s 200th win by scoring on a breakaway with
just 24 seconds left on the game clock.
The Blue Hose improve to 1-1 on the season, while the Warriors
return back to Pennsylvania at 1-2-2. Presbyterian welcomes
Erskine to Edens Field at Martin Stadium for a 7 p.m. kick on
