Blue Hose Women’s Soccer Edges Lenoir-Rhyne, 1-0, in SAC Opener

CLINTON, S.C. – The Presbyterian College women’s soccer team opened up South Atlantic Conference action on the right foot as the Blue Hose defeated the visiting Bears of Lenoir-Rhyne College, 1-0, on a goal by senior Claire Joyce (Aiken, S.C.) in the 38th minute.
 
PC’s sophomore Lytle Cannon (Spartanburg, S.C.) set up the winning goal fort the Blue Hose (3-1, 1-0 SAC) as Cannon crossed the ball from the left side of the box to Joyce who fired in the right-footed shot into the lower left corner, past a diving junior Nicole Ley (Cupertino, Calif.).  Ley would finish the game with nine saves on the night.

The Blue Hose defense held Lenoir-Rhyne (1-3-1, 0-1 SAC) to three shots in each half with red-shirt sophomore Erin Sinkuler (Roswell, Ga.) making two saves to uphold the win.  PC finished the game with 18 shots, while corner kicks were even with each team recording three.

The Blue Hose return to action on Wednesday, Sept. 13 as PC travels to USC Aiken for a 7 p.m. start.  Lenoir-Rhyne will also play on Wednesday as the Bears travel to Belmont Abbey College in Belmont, N.C.  Kickoff for LRC’s game is set for 4 p.m.
