PC Rally Comes Up Short In Loss To Mars Hill

MARS HILL, N.C. – Mars Hill raced out to a 2-0 lead in the first 13 minutes and never looked back in a 2-1 defeat of Presbyterian before 101 at Meares Stadium on Tuesday evening.

Presbyterian controlled the contest in all of the statistical categories, doubling up the Lions on shot attempts at 24 to 11. The Blue Hose had 10 corner kicks in the game and forced Mars Hill starting goalkeeper Claudia Cala to make 11 saves.

Mars Hill’s Alicia Blaha placed the Lions on the scoreboard early in the game, when she used a Jasmine Riley cross from inside the 18-yard box to give MHC a 1-0 lead at the 8:54 mark.

Riley Dorsey less than five minutes later scored the game-winner for the Lions when she took hold of a through ball by Caity Murnahan and placed it past PC goalkeeper Erin Sinkuler to give Mars Hill a 2-0 advantage.

Presbyterian’s Maggie Carruth scored her first goal of the season in the 65th-minute when she scored on a cross by teammate Claire Joyce to pull PC within reach, but the Lions’ defense held off PC’s advances to take the 2-1 victory.

Presbyterian, who falls to 5-8 overall and 2-4 in league play with the loss,  will travel to USC-Aiken tomorrow to take on the Pacers in a match that was originally set for Sept. 11. The Blue Hose and Pacers will kick things off at 5 p.m.
