PC Succumbs To Newberry

CLINTON, S.C. – Elisa Alvarez acquired a goal and an assist to lead Newberry to a 2-0 shutout win over league rival Presbyterian before 292 at Martin Stadium on Wednesday evening.

The loss is the second consecutive for the Blue Hose in conference action, dropping them to .500 at 3-3 overall and 1-2 in South Atlantic Conference play. Newberry betters its record to 5-3-1 and commandeers its first league victory of the season in the game, ending the evening 5-3-1 on the season thus far and 1-1-1 in SAC contests.

Brooke Tumblin obtained the first goal of the contest in the 27th-minute on a double assist from Alvarez and Inga Woiwode. Tumblin placed the ball into the upper left corner of the goal to tally the game-winner and give Newberry a 1-0 advantage.

The game would stay that way for almost 50 minutes until Elisa Alvarez rocketed a shot from 30 yards out past PC goalkeeper Erin Sinkuler.

The two teams combined for 31 shots in the game with both Sinkuler and Newberry starting goalkeeper Danielle Beckerle in their 90 minutes between the pipes picking up six saves each.

The Blue Hose next travel to Tusculum for a SAC league game at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 23 before returning home on Wednesday, Sept. 27 for a game against non-conference foe Francis Marion.
