Presbyterian Ranked Ninth In Latest Regional Poll
CLINTON, S.C. – After
starting the 2006 season unranked, the Presbyterian women’s
soccer team has achieved its first regional ranking of the year,
coming in at No. 9 in the latest NSCAA/adidas Division II
Women’s Soccer Southeast Region Poll.
Presbyterian
commenced the season by falling to Armstrong Atlantic in its
first game, but bounced back to win its last three and stand 3-1
(1-0 SAC) at the end of last week. The Blue Hose downed
Lenoir-Rhyne 1-0 last Saturday to commandeer their first league
win of the year.
The top four teams in
the Southeast region are all members of the South Atlantic
Conference, with Carson-Newman coming in ranked No. 1 followed
by Tusculum, Catawba and Wingate. Mars Hill, who is also a
member of the SAC, is ranked eighth in the region poll.
The early success on
the pitch for the Blue Hose is aided by the output of sophomore
forward Lytle Cannon. The Spartanburg, S.C. native is second
nationally in the latest NCAA Division II women’s soccer
statistics in the assists-per-game category.
Cannon currently has
an assist average of 1.25 per game off five assists in four
games for the Blue Hose. Only Wilmington’s (Del.) Colby Bugda
has a higher average at 1.33 per contest.
The Blue Hose next
travel to Jefferson City, Tenn. on Saturday, Sept. 16 to take on
Carson-Newman, who is ranked third nationally in the
NSCAA/adidas poll. Kickoff is at 2 p.m. and the game is the
first of a PC soccer twinbill in Jefferson City, as the men will
square off against the Eagles at 4 p.m.
