Presbyterian Women’s Soccer Unable to Hold Off
Armstrong Atlantic State
SAVANNAH, Ga. –
The Pirates
of Armstrong Atlantic State University scored three goals in six
minutes to give Armstrong Atlantic State the 4-3 edge over
Presbyterian College Friday afternoon at Cingular Field. The
loss spoiled the 2006 season-opener for the Blue Hose.
Sophomore Lyndsi Stricklen buried a pass from sophomore Jamie
Craine early in the 54th minute. Freshman Amaka Ofuani charted
a goal late in the 54th minute off a through ball by senior
Donna Cheyne to knot the score at 3-3. Freshman Kristin Burton
buried her second goal of the afternoon into the back of the net
off a long ball, sent in by freshman Kayley Ralton, in 60th
minute to give the Pirates the 4-3 victory.
Burton, off a pass from Stricklen, buried her first goal in the
21st minute to put the Pirates up 1-0. Presbyterian’s
Lytle Cannon answered back in the 33rd minute
to tie the score, 1-1. Senior Claire Joyce (Aiken, S.C.) buried
a cross from junior Millie Green (Columbia, S.C.) in the 42nd
minute to put the Blue Hose up, 2-1. Green added a goal of her
own in the 51st minute to give PC a 3-1 advantage.

Held posted four stops for the Pirates in 90 minutes of action.
For the Blue Hose red-shirt sophomore Erin Sinkuler (Roswell,
Ga.) allowed only one goal against three saves in 46 minutes of
play, while freshman Abby Young (Charlotte, N.C.) made four
saves in 44 minutes.
AASU out
shot Presbyterian, 25-12, and held a 6-1 advantage on corner
kicks.
The Blue Hose open their home stand on Sept. 3 against East
Stroudsburg University. AASU is next on the road at Erskine
College on Sept. 4.
