#32 LADY BLUE HOSE ROLL
PAST CALIFORNIA (Pa.) IN CLINTON, S.C. – The Presbyterian College women’s tennis team got back in the win column with an 8-1 victory over the visiting Vulcans of California University of Pennsylvania at the Templeton Tennis Center on Monday morning. The win lifts PC, who is ranked No. 32 in Division II, to 6-2 on the year. The Vulcans, who are ranked third in the Northeast region, fall to 5-4 overall. The Lady Blue Hose swept all three doubles as junior Catherine Bankhead (Amarillo, Texas) and freshman Abby Diminich (Myrtle Beach, S.C.) defeated CU’s sophomore Inga Chilingaryan (Yerevan, Armenia) and junior Katie Anderson (Kallangur, Australia), 8-4, at No. 1 doubles. Sophomore Brittany Lanford (Florence, S.C.) and junior Lisa Moyer (Florence, S.C.) followed with an 8-1 victory at No. 2 doubles against junior Jessica Brown (Pittsburg, Pa.) and senior Melissa Anderson (San Diego, Calif.). At No. 3 doubles, junior Lauren Brown (Gaffney, S.C.) and ssophomore Kari Fuller (Suwanee, Ga.) handed juniors Andra Preda (Toronto, Canada) and Daniella Zevallos (Lima, Peru) an 8-1 setback. The Vulcans only match point came at No. 1 singles as Chilingaryan defeated Bankhead, 6-2, 6-3. PC’s Brown beat K. Anderson, 6-1, 6-2 at No. 2, while Moyer handled M. Anderson, 6-1, 6-0 at No. 3 singles. The Lady Blue Hose’s Diminich posted a 6-3, 6-3 victory at No. 4 singles against CU’s Brown, while Lanford picked up a 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 5 versus freshman Lauren Hovey (Silver Lake, Ohio). PC’s last point came at No. 6 singles as sophomore Kathryn Kleckley (Lexington, S.C.) earned a 6-2, 6-4 win against freshman Lindsay Mathieson (New Market, Ontario). The Lady Blue Hose returns to action on Friday, March 17, when PC travels to Wingate, N.C., to resume South Atlantic Conference action against Wingate University at 2:30. California (Pa.) continues their tour of the South with a match against Rhodes College on tomorrow at 9:00 a.m. |
