NO. 23 LADY BLUE HOSE ROLL PAST CONVERSE 8-1 CLINTON, S.C. — Presbyterian College finished the regular season in impressive fashion with an 8-1 victory over the All-Stars of Converse College in women’s tennis action Monday afternoon at the Templeton Courts. The No. 23-ranked Lady Blue Hose finish the regular season with a 15-3 mark, while the All-Stars fall to 2-11 overall. The Lady Blue Hose took a 2-1 lead after doubles as junior Lauren Brown (Gaffney, S.C.) and freshman Abby Diminich (Myrtle Beach, S.C.) led the way with a 8-2 victory over CC’s duo of junior Tina Rohner (Kaufburen, Germany) and senior Virginia Jones (Sumter, S.C.) at the top flight. Converse picked up a point at the No. 2 flight when sophomore Ive Jardim (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) and freshman Carolyn Summerell (Centreville, Va.) defeated PC’s team of sophomores Kathryn Kleckley (Lexington, S.C.) and Cassie Martin (Gainesville, Ga.) 8-3. PC’s opened the match with a 8-0 victory at No. 3 doubles as sophomore Brooke Toluba (Lilburn, Ga.) and freshman Casey Bookout (Columbia, S.C.) defeated freshman Mary-Linton Smith (La Grange, N.C.) and Tara Teate. In singles, Toluba defeated Smith 6-0, 6-0 and Bookout made quick work of Teate (6-0, 6-1) to put PC ahead 4-1. Kelckley secured the deciding point for the Lady Blue hose with a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Summerell at the No. 3 flight. Martin picked up a 6-4, 6-1 win over Jones at No. 5, while Diminich was victorious over Jardim 6-3, 6-3. Brown finished off the All-Stars with a 6-2, 6-2 win at the top flight over Rohner. PC returns to action on Wednesday, April 19 when they host Lenoir-Rhyne College in the first round of the 2006 Food Lion SAC Tournament at 2:30 pm. Converse returns to action tomorrow when they host Queens University of Charlotte. |
