LADY BLUE HOSE DEFEAT NO. 23 ERSKINE 5-4 IN CLINTON, S.C. — Presbyterian College fought back from a 2-1 deficit after doubles to defeat No. 23 Erskine College 5-4 in women’s tennis action Tuesday afternoon at the Templeton Courts. The victory is PC’s third out of the last four matches against nationally ranked opponents. The No. 31st-ranked Lady Blue Hose improve to 13-3 on the season, while Erskine falls to 15-3 on the year. The Lady Blue Hose opened the match with a victory at No. 1 doubles as junior Catherine Bankhead (Amarillo, Tex.) and freshman Abby Diminich (Myrtle Beach, S.C.) defeated the No. 7-ranked doubles team in the Mid-Atlantic Region, in juniors Ellen Dawson (Atlanta, Ga.) and Julie Mages (Hixson, Tenn.) 8-3. The Flying Fleet responded with a victory at the other two doubles flights to pull ahead 2-1. Sophomore Jennifer Gennaoui (Glassboro, N.J.) and freshman Kacie Knox (Union, S.C.) defeated PC’s duo of junior Lisa Moyer (Florence, S.C.) and sophomore Brittany Lanford (Florence, S.C.), while senior Chrissy Taylor (Walhalla, S.C.) and sophomore Jenna Tudor (Winchester, IN) defeated PC junior Lauren Brown (Gaffney, S.C.) and sophomore Kari Fuller (Suwanee, Ga.) by identical scores of 8-6. In singles, PC’s Fuller defeated Tudor 6-2, 6-2 at the No. 6 flight to even the match at 2-2. PC retook the lead at 3-2 when Moyer, the reigning SAC Player of the Week, defeated Taylor 6-2, 6-2 at No. 4. Erskine evened the match at 3-3 moments later as Gennaoui defeated Bankhead 7-6, 6-1. Diminch gave PC the lead for good with a 6-4, 6-2 victory over Mages at the No. 3 flight, while Brown clinched the deciding point for the Lady Blue Hose at the No. 2 flight with a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Dawson. The Flying Fleet picked up the final point of the match as Knox defeated Lanford in three sets (3-6, 7-6, 6-3). The Lady Blue Hose return to action on Friday, April 14 when they travel to Hickory, N.C. to take on Lenoir-Rhyne College at 10:00 am, while the Flying Fleet return to action on Friday, April 7 when the host Lees-McRae College at 2:00 pm. |
