#11 USC UPSTATE BLANKS #32
LADY BLUE HOSE IN CLINTON, S.C. – The Presbyterian College women’s tennis team had their modest two-match winning streak snapped by a 9-0 defeat to No. 11 USC Upstate on Sunday afternoon. With the win, USC Upstate is now 6-2 on the year, while PC slips to 5-2 overall. The Spartans’ duo of freshmen Anna Novo (Caracas, Venezuela) and Vivian Neuenshwander (Arequipa, Peru) defeated junior Catherine Bankhead (Amarillo, Texas) and freshman Abby Diminich (Myrtle Beach, S.C.), 8-4, at No. 1 doubles. At No. 2 doubles, USCU’s tandem of freshman Daniela Lovera (Caracas, Venezuela) and sophomore Susana Hernandez (Cali, Colombia) handed junior Lauren Brown (Gaffney, S.C.) and sophomore Brittany Lanford (Florence, S.C.) an 8-6 setback. Sophomore Diana Martinez (Medellin, Colombia) and Maria Herrera (Buenos Aires, Argentina) won No. 3 doubles for the Spartans by a score of 8-0 against the Blue Hose’s sophomores Kari Fuller (Suwanee, Ga.) and Kathryn Kleckley (Lexington, S.C.). Novo defeated Bankhead, 6-1, 6-2 at No. 1 singles, while Brown fell 6-3, 7-6 (5) to Lovera, who is No. 15 in the Mid-Atlantic region, at No. 2. Hernandez posted a 6-4, 6-1 victory at No. 3 singles against Diminich. At No. 4 singles, Martinez picked up a 6-3, 6-2 win versus junior Lisa Moyer (Florence, S.C.). Herrera earned a 6-3, 6-2 victory at No. 5 against Lanford, while Neuenshwander was a 6-3, 6-3 victor at No. 6 singles versus Fuller. The Lady Blue Hose returns to action tomorrow when PC hosts California University of Pennsylvania, who is ranked third in the Northeast region, at 10:00 a.m. at the Templeton Tennis Center. USC Upstate will host No. 13 Francis Marion University on Saturday, March 18, at 1:00.
