LADY BLUE HOSE TENNIS BEGINS BIG WEEKEND TODAY
PC to host three straight matches including a pair of against nationally ranked opponents

CLINTON, S.C. — The Presbyterian College women’s tennis program will begin a very important weekend of tennis this afternoon by hosting No. 13-ranked Francis Marion University (11-4) at 3:00 pm on Templeton Courts. The match-up with the Patriots will be one of two nationally ranked opponents the Lady Blue Hose will host over the weekend.

The Lady Blue Hose (10-2, 4-0 SAC) are currently ranked No. 31 in the latest Fila NCAA Division II National rankings and are ranked No. 8 in the first NCAA Division II Southeast Region rankings released yesterday.

On Saturday, April 1, Presbyterian will host Carson-Newman College in a key South Atlantic Conference match-up. The Lady Eagles enter the weekend with a 4-5 overall mark and a 1-2 record in league play. C-N and Newberry College will play Friday afternoon before traveling to Clinton, S.C. on Saturday for their match with the Lady Blue Hose. PC defeated Carson-Newman 8-1 last season on April 8 in Jefferson City, Tenn.

The marquee match-up of the weekend will take place on Sunday, April 2, as the No. 38-ranked Pioneers of Tusculum College (10-5, 3-0 SAC) will come to town for a 1:00 pm match. PC and Tusculum have combined to win a share of every SAC regular season title dating back to the 2000 season when the regular season champion was first recognized.

Last season in Greeneville, Tenn. on April 10, the Lady Blue Hose defeated Tusculum 5-4 to win the 2005 SAC regular season title and went on to defeat the Pioneers 5-4 on April 23 in the championship match of the 2005 Food Lion SAC Tournament. Sunday’s match will go along with in deciding the 2006 regular season champion.

During Sunday’s match with Tusculum, the Presbyterian women‘s tennis team will also be hosting a Skin Cancer Awareness Day. A table will be setup at Templeton courts where samples of sunscreen and skin cancer information brochures will be available to the public. Member of the PC women’s tennis team will also be available to talk about the significance of proper protection from sun exposure.
