LADY BLUE HOSE DEFEAT WINGATE, 9-0, IN WINGATE, N.C. – The Presbyterian College women’s tennis team defeated Wingate University 9-0 in South Atlantic Conference action Friday afternoon at the Wingate University tennis facility. The number 32 team in the latest Fila Collegiate NCAA Division II rankings, Presbyterian improves to 7-2 overall and 2-0 in the SAC. Wingate is 0-8 overall and 0-1 in the SAC. The two teams started the afternoon with three highly contested doubles matches. At the number three spot, Presbyterian sophomores Kari Fuller (Suwanee, Ga.) and Kathryn Kleckley (Lexington, S.C.) outlasted Wingate senior Courtney Luce (Knoxville, Tenn.) and freshman Shawn Kindley (Lincolnton, N.C.) 9-7. At the number one doubles position, Blue Hose junior Catherine Bankhead (Amarillo, Texas) and freshman Abby Diminich (Myrtle Beach, S.C.) defeated Wingate juniors Alexis McDaniel (Acworth, Ga.) and Sydney Pallesen (Calgary, Alberta, Canada) 8-6. Bankhead won the battle of the number one singles players, as she topped McDaniel 6-1, 6-4. Blue Hose junior Lauren Brown (Gaffney, S.C.) took the win at the number two singles flight, defeating Wingate junior Erika Gluckstal (Fort Myers, Fla.) 6-0, 6-0. Both teams return to action Saturday. Presbyterian will make the trek to Salisbury to face SAC foe Catawba College at 1 p.m. Wingate steps out of the league fray to visit Brevard College for a men’s and women’s tennis twin bill. The first serve is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. in Brevard, N.C.
