PC’s Brown Named SAC Women’s Tennis Player Of The Year For Second Consecutive Season

ROCK HILL, S.C. – Presbyterian College senior Lauren Brown, who went 10-6 overall and 6-1 in the league, was named the South Atlantic Conference Women’s Tennis Player of the Year for the second year in a row, the league announced today.

Brown (Gaffney, S.C.) also received the Women’s Tennis Scholar Athlete Award for the second year in a row. Brown has a 3.89 GPA as a chemistry major.

She is a four-time All-SAC selection and has helped lead the Blue Hose to the past three conference championships.

Brown was named to the 2006 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America team, and is a member of the Sigma Kappa Alpha and Tri Beta honor societies. She is recognized as a campus and community leader, serving and chair of the Presbyterian College and SAC Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, and is the conference’s national representative. She is a volunteer with Habitat for Humanity and helps to read and tutor at a local school and is also a tutor for the Presbyterian athletic department.

The regular season champions in the SAC, Presbyterian led the way with five All-Conference selections, including four on the First Team. Joining Brown on the first team are Lisa Moyer (Florence, S.C.), Catherine Bankhead (Amarillo, Texas) and Kari Fuller (Suwanee, Ga.).

Abby Diminich (Myrtle Beach, S.C.) was a second team selection for the Lady Blue Hose.

Newberry College’s Autise Mortimer, who went 5-2 at No. 1 singles in her first year, was named Freshman of the Year.

Newberry College coach David Staniford, who guided the Lady Indians to a second-place finish, the highest in school history, was named Women’s Tennis Coach of the Year.
