PC Hires Davis As
Women’s Tennis Coach
CLINTON, S.C. –
Presbyterian College Director of Athletics Dr. William B.
“Bee” Carlton announced the hiring of Tyler Davis as PC’s
new women’s tennis coach on Friday. Davis replaces Bobby
McKee who left PC after 26 years to become the Director of
Tennis/Head men’s and women’s tennis coach at Lenoir-Rhyne
College.
“Coach Tyler
Davis will be an outstanding addition to our athletic
department and women's tennis program,” remarked Carlton.
“After carefully considering and making a difficult decision
among very well-qualified candidates, I am confident that
Coach Davis is exactly the right person to build on Coach
McKee's outstanding foundation of championship tennis at PC
and to lead us into our future of Division I competition.
“Coach Davis has
a strong record of success at Limestone College in
recruiting exceptionally talented student-athletes and
building championship-caliber teams. We welcome Coach Davis
to our staff and can't wait for him to get started here.”
Davis comes to PC
from Limestone College where he has served as the head men’s
and women’s tennis coach for the last three seasons.
“I’m honored to become the head coach of the women's tennis
team at Presbyterian College,” said Davis. “The entire
tennis program at PC has a rich tradition which I am honored
to now be a part of. I am very excited about working with
the returning players and look forward to welcoming new
players in the fall and spring. With PC's reputation and the
jump to NCAA Division I, I am certain that I will be able to
add top players in the state, southeast, national and
international levels.”
Davis was successful with the Saints as the head coach on
both the men’s and women’s side, compiling an impressive
96-63 record overall in his three years at the helm of
Limestone Tennis. Davis was 50-31 as the men’s tennis coach
at Limestone and 46-32 as the women’s tennis coach.
The
Carolina-Virginia Athletics Conference women’s tennis Coach
of the Year in 2006, Davis led the men’s and women’s tennis
teams at Limestone to national rankings the past two
seasons. Limestone was the only institution during the time
period in the CVAC to have both the men’s and women’s teams
nationally-ranked.
Davis led the Limestone men to a final ranking of 37th at
the end of the 2007 spring campaign, while the Limestone
women concluded their efforts on the year with a final
ranking of 39th.
A
1998 graduate of Limestone, Davis played four seasons for
the Saints, helping to lead Limestone to an NAIA regional
tournament during his junior season.
After graduating from Limestone with a Physical Education
degree with a concentration in Athletic Training, Davis
served as the tennis director at Legacy Park in Atlanta, Ga.
before moving back to the Upstate of South Carolina to
become a resident professional for the Spartanburg Country
Club.
Davis left the Spartanburg Country Club after two years to
take the job at Limestone in 2004.
A
native of Beaufort, S.C., Davis is married to Jamie and the
couple have a son Parker (3) and are expecting another in a
girl that is due in late November of 2007.
