CLINTON, S.C. – Top-seeded Presbyterian College advanced to the semifinals of the 2007 Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Women’s Tennis Tournament with a 5-0 victory over eighth-seeded Lenoir-Rhyne on Tuesday afternoon at the Templeton Tennis Courts.

Presbyterian started off things by easily claiming all three doubles matches. Playing in the first doubles flight, Catherine Bankhead (Amarillo, Texas) and partner Abby Diminich (Myrtle Beach, S.C.) won 8-1 over Lenoir-Rhyne’s Kate Meiners and Kelli Ball.

Virginia Waldron (Mountville, S.C.) and Lauren Brown (Gaffney, S.C.) picked up a win at No. 2 doubles to improve to 9-3 overall as a tandem, while PC’s Brittany Lanford (Florence, S.C.) and Lisa Moyer (Florence, S.C.) defeated L-R’s Mary Hulet Kitterman and Amanda Hunsucker by the score of 8-1 to improve to 11-2 as a duo on the 2007 season.

The Lady Blue Hose did not need victories in the first four singles flights and used victories by Kari Fuller (Suwanee, Ga.) and Lanford in the fifth and sixth singles flights to earn the 5-0 win.

Fuller defeated Lenoir-Rhyne’s Bekah Rhoney 6-1, 6-0, while Lanford won 6-0, 6-0 over L-R’s Hunsucker.

Presbyterian will next square off against fourth-seeded Mars Hill at 9 a.m. on Saturday, April 21 in the semifinals, which will be contested at Tusculum College in Greeneville, Tenn.
