PC Advances In 2007 Food Lion SAC Women’s Tennis
Tournament
CLINTON, S.C. – Top-seeded Presbyterian
College advanced to the semifinals of the 2007 Food Lion
South Atlantic Conference Women’s Tennis Tournament with a
5-0 victory over eighth-seeded Lenoir-Rhyne on Tuesday
afternoon at the Templeton Tennis Courts.
Presbyterian started off things by
easily claiming all three doubles matches. Playing in the
first doubles flight, Catherine Bankhead (Amarillo, Texas)
and partner Abby Diminich (Myrtle Beach, S.C.) won 8-1 over
Lenoir-Rhyne’s Kate Meiners and Kelli Ball.
Virginia Waldron (Mountville, S.C.) and
Lauren Brown (Gaffney, S.C.) picked up a win at No. 2
doubles to improve to 9-3 overall as a tandem, while PC’s
Brittany Lanford (Florence, S.C.) and Lisa Moyer (Florence,
S.C.) defeated L-R’s Mary Hulet Kitterman and Amanda
Hunsucker by the score of 8-1 to improve to 11-2 as a duo on
the 2007 season.
The Lady Blue Hose did not need
victories in the first four singles flights and used
victories by Kari Fuller (Suwanee, Ga.) and Lanford in the
fifth and sixth singles flights to earn the 5-0 win.
Fuller defeated Lenoir-Rhyne’s Bekah
Rhoney 6-1, 6-0, while Lanford won 6-0, 6-0 over L-R’s
Hunsucker.
Presbyterian will next square off
against fourth-seeded Mars Hill at 9 a.m. on Saturday,
April 21 in the semifinals, which will be contested at
Tusculum College in Greeneville, Tenn.
The championship game will be played at
2:30 p.m. on Sunday, April 22.
