PC's Women's Tennis
Team Picks Up First Win Of 2007
CULLOWHEE, N.C. – Presbyterian
College’s women’s tennis team claimed its first win of the
2007 season on Friday afternoon with a 5-2 victory over
Western Carolina.
The Lady Blue Hose picked up wins in
four of the six singles matches. Abby Diminich earned a
victory at No. 3 singles with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Western
Carolina’s Mariona Trilla Jane.
The 2006 South Atlantic Conference
Player of the Year, Lauren Brown won at No. 4 singles with a
6-2, 6-4 victory over WCU’s Susana Sjokvist. Virginia
Waldron won 6-2, 6-0 over the Catamounts’ Holly Stocks at
No. 6 singles to pick up her first win of the season.
Brittany Lanford became the first PC
women’s tennis player to improve to 2-0 individually when
she defeated Amanda Massey of Western Carolina, 6-1, 7-5, at
No. 5 singles.
Lanford teamed with Lisa Moyer to earn
an 8-2 win over Western Carolina’s doubles tandem of
Jane-Massey at No. 2 doubles, while Brown teamed with Kari
Fuller for an 8-5 win over WCU’s duo of Sjokvist-Stocks at
No. 3 doubles.
The victory improves No. 34
Presbyterian to 1-1 on the season, while the loss drops
Western Carolina to 1-1.
The Lady Blue Hose travel once again to
the Western North Carolina area tomorrow to face off against
future Big South foe UNC Asheville at 4:30 p.m.
