Blue Hose Tennis Continue Success at ITA Regional

LAKELAND, FLA. – The second day of action at the 2006 Wilson ITA Southeast Regional Tournament is over and the Presbyterian College men’s and women’s tennis teams both have players vying for singles and doubles titles.  The regional tournament, which is being hosted by Florida Southern College, will be wrapped up on Sunday.

Women’s
Senior Lisa Moyer (Florence, S.C.) defeated Tampa’s Allison Beck 6-3, 6-2 in the first round of the singles back draw.  Moyer proceeded to dispose of Saint Leo’s Gina Schifano 6-2, 6-1 to advance to the quarterfinals.  She will take on Florida Southern’s Erin Conroy at 2 p.m.

The duo of senior Lauren Brown (Gaffney, S.C.) and sophomore Abby Diminich (Myrtle Beach, S.C.) are in the quarterfinals of the back draw after eliminating Rollins’ Allison Arof and Soni Bernal 8-5.  Brown/Diminich will face Nova Southeastern’s Mary Crider and Andrea Moncada at 10 a.m. tomorrow.

Men’s
Sophomore Aaron Chapman (Mount Pleasant, Australia) and doubles partner, freshman Matthew Martin (Surrey, British Columbia, Canada), find themselves in the quarterfinals of the regionals after removing Barry’s David Barragan and Roman Wershel 8-4 from the tournament field.  Chapman/Martin will meet Florida Tech’s Clifford Giel and Keith Kessler tomorrow at 9 a.m. in the Round of 8.  Giel/Kessler are seeded fourth in the tournament, while Chapman/Martin are 2-0 thus far in doubles play at the ITA’s.

In the doubles back draw, the tandems of sophomores Patrick Fediuk (Kimberley, British Columbia, Canada) and Adam Herendeen (Douglasville, Ga.) as well as junior Zach Glankler (Highland Village, Texas) and sophomore Andrew Lee (Myrtle Beach, S.C.) are in tomorrow’s quarterfinal round.

Fediuk/Herendeen will take on conference foe, Carson-Newman’s Guiseppe Schwarz and Preston Sneed, at 9 a.m.  Glankler/Lee picked up a default win over Florida Gulf Coast’s Danny Lee and Edson Lima to have the right to go up against Saint Leo’s Greg Strange and David Farinez at 9 a.m.

In the singles back draw, Herendeen earned a 7-5, 6-0 victory over Farinez and a 6-3, 6-1 win against Carson-Newman’s John Borthick to advance to the quarterfinals where he will meet Carson-Newman’s Jack Harvie at noon. 

Martin is also in the quarterfinals of the back draw as he tallied wins over Strange (6-1, 6-1) and his own teammate, Lee (6-2, 6-2).  He will take on Barry’s Victor Rodriguez at noon also.
