Fuller Claims Individual Title at USC
Upstate Tournament
SPARTANBURG, S.C. –
Junior Kari Fuller (Suwanee, Ga.) of the Presbyterian
College women’s tennis team won her singles flight at the
USC Upstate Fall Tournament as the Blue Hose competed in
their first fall tournament of the 2006-07 season. The
tournament featured USC Upstate, USC Aiken, Tusculum
College, and Mars Hill College.
Singles
Fuller captured the ‘B’ draw championship with her 3-6, 6-3,
10-4 defeat of USC Upstate’s Vivian Neuenschwander. Fuller
had picked up a 6-3, 6-3 victory over Tusculum College’s
Caroline Crowe before beating USC Aiken’s Telford 6-0, 6-0
en route to the final match against Neuenschwander.
After picking up a win
against Mars Hill College’s Aylin Seyalioglu, senior Lauren
Brown (Gaffney, S.C.) lost a tough match to USC Upstate’s
Susana Hernandez 2-6, 6-2 (8-10) in singles ‘A’ draw play.
Senior Lisa Moyer (Florence, S.C.) fell to Tusculum’s
Bronwyn Hartley 6-3, 6-3.
Doubles
In the doubles action, the
Blue Hose duo of Brown and Moyer advanced to the
championship match of the doubles ‘A’ draw winners’
bracket. Brown and Moyer beat USC Aiken’s Mayra Kaefer and
Elly Toth 8-4 followed by an 8-5 defeat of Mars Hill’s
Nancie Gruber and Whitney Stroud. Brown and Moyer fell to
USC Upstate’s Hernandez and Daniela Lovera 8-3 in the
finals.
Presbyterian
will wrap up the fall portion of their 2006-07 campaign,
Thursday-Sunday, Sept. 28-Oct. 1 at the 2006 ITA Southeast
Regionals hosted by Florida Southern College in Lakeland,
Fla.
