First Chinese Corner of the School Year

I had an opportunity to attend the first Chinese Corner Event of the school year. The staff of the Confucius Institute invited a gentleman by the name of Dr. Yin Hubin, from Beijing, to come and educate interested students in some Chinese religions. The really cool part about this presentation is that it had connections with the President’s Interfaith Challenge Project that the school has cooperatively taken on. The many students who made an effort to attend this event displayed curiosity in the cultures and religions reported.

MSU Game Night

Presbyterian College’s Multicultural Student Union (MSU) hosted a game night on Friday, September 9th that was open to the whole campus. The campus still talks about it. Those who came had a blast. There were games, music, pizza, soda, cookies, dancing, more pizza, and did I mention dancing?! One student I talked to said, “This was a fantastic idea. It’s a Friday night before a football game. There’s nothing else to do, so when everyone comes together to play games and have fun, it makes PC a fun environment on the weekends. Besides, we need more events to look forward to outside of the fraternity houses! I hope Community Life continues with fun, campus wide activities for Friday nights!” Students raved about game night even on Sunday as they laughed and shared stories with their friends of all the wonderful times they had that weekend.

Pravin Gurung: All the way from Nepal to South Carolina

Generally when people think about international students who attend colleges in America , they probably assume the students are from Europe, developed Asian nations like China or Japan, or maybe even somewhere in South America. What most people do not imagine  is that someone from Nepal would come all the way to Clinton, South Carolina to go to PC and get a college education.

Nepal is a country located between China and India, famous for the Himalayan Mountains which include Mt. Everest, the tallest mountain in the world.

SUB Movie Night was “Unstoppable”

Imagine GDH open after hours.  Being able to use a meal, not bonus bucks, from your meal card for food – only not in the meal period.  Being able to watch a movie on the big screen without having to get in your car.  Being able to sit back and not have to think for a couple hours about how busy the last two weeks before Fall Break are going to be.  Plus the added bonus of being surrounded by your fellow PC students and friends.  You must have been at SUB Movie Night.

The Student Union Board hosted its first Movie Night of the year in a new location, our own dining hall GDH, which brought together approximately 75 students, from freshmen to seniors, in a night full of free – free food, free fellowship, and free entertainment.

PSA Pertaining to Planing Participation in Primary Polls

September 25, 2011 News, Politics, Student Life No Comments

Every South Carolina resident needs to mark February 28th 2012 on their calendars. Besides being the 302nd anniversary of The Battle Helsingborg, it is also the date of the South Carolina Republican Primary. A primary is an election held by the political parties to determine who the party will run on their presidential ticket. These serve as a testing ground for candidates, giving them election experience before the main election. While turnout is lower than the main election, primaries are used to get the base of a party excited about an election.

Last Thursday, September 15th, the Department of International Programs hosted a study abroad fair in Springs Gym. Mr. Viet Ha, Director of International Programs and the coordinator of the study abroad fair, was interviewed.

When asked how he felt the study abroad fair went, Mr. Ha replied that “the staff did a great job organizing it!” He also thinks it’s great that the faculty who are leading the Maymesters were there, because their excitement gave students a more clear idea of what the trips will be like and added a more personal feel to the overall event.

Let It All Out

How many of you are stressed to the point of no return? Ever feel like if one more thing goes wrong then the rest of your hair will fall out? Well, let your worries wash away because there is always a way to deal with stress.

We all know what stress is; we have been dealing with it since the beginning of our very existence. In elementary school, it was figuring out who your best friend would be. In middle school, it was trying to get that cute boy or girl to ask you out. It high school, it was paper after paper and project after project. Right before graduation, you stressed over how you were going to pay the lunch bill you neglected for four years. After graduation, maybe you thought you would be in the clear, but then your parents said you had to go to college.
