International Study Opportunities

Recognizing that the business world is becoming increasingly borderless, the Department offers opportunities for our students to study international business first-hand in the global arena by spending a semester studying abroad. Countries students have studied in include: Scotland, England, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Spain, Australia, Austria, Finland, and others.

In a business world that is increasingly global in nature, our department sees international business as a vital component to our students’ education. In addition to placing an international business component in the core curriculum, the Department of Economics and Business Administration offers its majors a variety of short-term international study opportunities in countries across the globe.

In 2009, Dr. Suzie Smith led a study trip to China with colleagues in English and Political Science, Dr. Karen Kingsbury and Dr. David Liu.  Dr. Smith is planning another trip to China in May 2012.  Contact her at ssmith@presby.edu for more information. In 2008, Dr. Slice and Lipford took students to Stirling, Scotland to study economics. Dr. Lipford is planning a spring break 2012 trip to Cuba in conjunction with his Econ. 326 (Comparative Economics) class.  Contact him at jlipford@presby.edu for more information.

In the past, the Department has offered business courses in China, Scotland, England, Mexico, and South Korea during summer sessions. Courses have included Doing Business in the China, Marketing in the European Union, International Management, Introduction to the Mexican Economy,  The Economics of Globalization, and The Economics of Europe: West and East.

In addition to taking internationally-themed courses, students also learn about the countries they visit through a variety of plant visits, guest speakers, cultural events, and informal tours.
