Gulf Coast Research Lab - Summer 2008
The biology department maintains an affiliation with the University of Southern Mississippi and the Gulf Coast Research Lab. As a PC student, you can take summer courses at the marine lab, and use the transfer credit towards your PC degree, or towards our newly established Marine Studies Minor. Courses at GCRL are field oriented with emphasis on local fauna, habitats, life cycles and ecology. Typically we are ‘at sea’ once a week, with one overnight voyage on an oceanographic research vessel. Days are spent between morning lectures, field collecting, and afternoon labs. Dormitories and meals are included.
GCRL courses scheduled for this coming summer include: Oceanography, Marine Biology, Marine Mammals, Marine Invertebrates, Biology of Sharks, Ichthyology, Marine Science for Teachers, and Marine Ecology. Each carries 5 hrs. Academic credit.
If you are interested, please drop by Dr. Jim Wetzel's office (235 Richardson Hall) or call (864-833-8412) for more information.
