Madolyn Imko, English and history double major
Class of 2009,
Clinton History Museum
Madolyn Imko loves history so much she completed her English and history double major in three years. Her internship at the Clinton History Museum was a perfect opportunity to learn about the city’s history and possibly lead to a future opportunity.
“I'm from Charleston, a city that is obviously rich with history,” Madolyn said. “I've always wanted to work in the City of Charleston museum, but I've never had the opportunity. I figured that the Clinton museum might serve as a good jumping off point if I ever wanted to apply for an internship at the museum in Charleston.”
Madolyn’s favorite part of the internship was creating an exhibit for Veteran’s Day. She found it an honor to have such an influence on an exhibit that was moving toward those who fought in the War. Dr. Nelson’s military history class sparked her interest in this particular topic.
“It was most interesting to research, catalogue, and put together this exhibit from items that have been sporadically collected through the years,” she said.
For her senior year, Madolyn plans to study at the University of Hyberdad, India to fulfill her interest in Hindi. She feels like the best way to learn is full-on immersion. She knows this experience is going to be challenging, but she also knows that the reward of the experience will be worth it. Just like her internship.
“I think that internships are a wonderful opportunity to find out what kind of work fulfills you,” Madolyn said. “I understand that all jobs aren't impassioning, but how lovely to find work so dear to your heart.”
