Intern story

One business internship.
One outdoor education internship.
Two great experiences.

Justine Schwindel, Business Major, Class of 2008
Promotional/Market Research Intern, American Solutions for Business- Greenville, SC, fall sem. '06
Public Relations Intern, Joe Adair Outdoor Education Center- Laurens, SC, spring & fall sem. '07

At American Solutions for Business, I conducted marketing research on target customers such as colleges and upstate businesses. I did a lot of hands-on work compiling information in databases to help clients' needs.

At the Joe Adair Outdoor Education Center, I did everything from event planning to public relations by reaching various types of media outlets. In one of my projects, I prepared and executed a major PR plan for the first annual Mountain Foot Festival. I also served as an integral part of a team to raise $25,000 and arrange an event for 500 people.

The internships were similar since they both helped to improve my communication skills and problem-solving tactics.

Since I plan to enter the career world first for two years of work experience so that I can pursue an MBA program at a major university, these skill sets that I have received in my internships will help tremendously right out of PC. At the moment, I am interviewing with some software companies and banks, and I know whichever job I am offered, my duties each day will be things I also did in my internships. It was a wonderful learning experience and I recommend the process for any upcoming student.
