Something different every day

Laura Coker, Psychology Major, Class of 2008
Human Resources Internship
Avery Dennison, Clinton, SC

I interned in the human resources department, but I also worked with other employees inside the company.  Every single day I did something different!

I did not know what to expect going into the Internship.  This has been my third internship and my favorite.  Avery Dennison is a very professional and well-run organization.  I was very glad that I was able to jump right into work and start getting involved in their company on my first day.  Everyone there gave me a warm welcome and I couldn't wait to see what they had in store for me for the rest of the semester.

Every single day at Avery-Dennison was completely different for me.  Within my first three weeks I had already managed and organized employee records, updated attendance records for 2007, created new Excel spread sheets, and helped resolve employee issues.  I was also assigned to be in charge of creating the weekly memos that go out to all of their employees.  Additionally, I worked on many different projects throughout the semester.

I learned that in human resources every day is different.  You cannot have a set schedule because something is always coming up.  You have to be patient and willing to change around your schedule to help other people within the company.
