Resident Assistant (RA)
Under the direct supervision of an assigned Area Coordinator ("AC") and accountable to the Director of Residence Life and Summer Programs, the Resident Assistant ("RA") is responsible for serving as a Residence Life Staff Member, an advisor, a group leader and role model to the students residing in his/her living area as well as the PC community. A RA responds to student concerns, establishes safety procedures, and supports the objectives/policies of the Office of Residence Life and Presbyterian College.
Specifically, Resident Assistants shall address the following responsibilities:
- Build community on the residence hall by developing creative programs and activities on a regular basis. Each RA is required to sponsor or co-sponsor no less than three (3) programs a semester.
- Attend and actively participate in a mandatory, weekly staff meeting presided over by the AC.
- Attend a week-long mandatory training program at the start of the fall semester and attend regularly scheduled staff in-services throughout the year.
- Provide peer advising by responding to personal, community, and roommate issues/conflicts.
- Responsible for consistent enforcement of Presbyterian College policies and regulations in the residence halls and on the college campus.
- Responsible to oversee that the sanitation of the building is maintained and that there are no unaccounted for acts of vandalism.
- Facilitate the reporting of maintenance requests to the appropriate campus officials.
- Serve as the RA on Duty based upon a schedule developed in coordination with the AC at the beginning of each semester.
- Manage check-in and checkout procedures throughout the course of the academic year. Be available to perform all tasks regarding check-in and checkout assigned by the Office of Residence Life.
- Provide administrative assistance to total staff operation. The RA will insure that bulletin boards are properly maintained, as well as keeping accurate and up-to-date records/reports (room inventories, floor plans, incident reports, duty log, etc.).
- Know and understand all aspects of the RA job responsibilities, as outlined in the published "RA Job Performance Expectations."
- Perform any and all reasonable duties as assigned by the AC or Office of Residence Life.
