Requirements for Academic Credit

Determine if you want to earn academic credit for your Internship. Deadline for summer internships is April 16; plan ahead for credit for all internships by ensuring that you meet the following requirements:

  • Important: The Internship Form must be submitted to receive academic credit. Link to the Internship Form and print it. Complete form. Secure appropriate signatures. Review with Associate Dean of Career Programs and your Faculty advisor for responsibilities and requirements. Keep a copy and submit original to the Registrar's Office.
  • Minimum GPA of 2.0 is required by PC. Academic departments &/or employer may require a higher GPA.
  • Students will work with a faculty intern advisor and the Associate Dean, Career Programs and Student Development. Students should ask a professor to be their intern advisor.
  • If, for some reason, the faculty member asked has other obligations, ask them to suggest someone else.
  • Credit Hours are based on contact hours (that is, hours actually worked):
    • 42 - 83 hours of contact equals 1 credit hour
    • 84 – 125 hours of contact equals 2 credit hours
    • 126+ hours of contact equal 3 credit hours
  • During the internship, stay in contact with your Faculty Intern Advisor and the Associate Dean of Career Programs. Establish a schedule of meetings with your Faculty Intern Advisor
  • Participate in the Internship Seminars through CSI
  • Self-assess transferable skills
  • Maintain a log of hours and complete weekly journals
  • Complete a summary Paper, or Project, or Presentation (Determined with Faculty Intern Advisor)
