Matt Martin, Class of 2010, Business Administration Major, Hazelmere Golf & Tennis Country Club, Surrey, BC, Canada

Matt Martin I helped manage an indoor tennis facility, mainly doing inventory management. This meant I made sure there were always enough supplies for the lounge (napkins, beer cups) and I kept track of tennis inventory sold. Also, I dealt with member complaints, the instructor's concerns and many other responsibilities.

Through this experience, I learned how to deal with people when they are not happy and think they are right, but you know they are wrong. I have a better understanding of maintaining inventory and how to organize that into a schedule. The experience of not learning from a textbook will help me tremendously in my future job.

It will be helpful in my job search to be able to say that I successfully completed the internship without any issues; that even when the manager was gone on holidays, I was able to keep things running smoothly.

Doing an internship is really worth it because the real life experience in the area you are interested in is a great way to find out if that position is really what you want to do.
