Sports Radio Internship

Kelly McDavid '09, Theater major
Internship Location: WCCX Sports Radio 1410

At my internship at WCCX Sports Radio 1410, I participated in various activiities around the station. I wrote and recorded commercials/jingles, developed advertising packages, sold advertising, attended community events as a representative for the station, broadcasted local sports events, attended to basic office duties, and provided creative input on many projects going on in the studio.

The greatest skill I learned was how to use music editing and recording software. I also learned how to sell advertising and write quick and concise commercials. I want to go into broadcasting, so knowing how to use the technical equipment utilized in the industry will help me get a job more easily. In fact, the station is putting together a demo tape of my commercials, jingles, and co-hosting of the morning show.

I would tell others considering an internship to be aggressive and to know what you want to get out of the internship. Set goals, and strive for them. Be observant at all times of everyone in your workplace. Don't be afraid to suggest your own ideas; be creative.
