Internship Scheduling Challenge Worth Effort

This was an accounting and small business management internship.  I did a number of activities such as working with a small company’s budget through reviewing monthly spending, inputting invoices, performing office tasks, and getting experience in all aspects of a small business. I learned how a small business works from all aspects, from the management, the accounting, to general day by day tasks.  I learned more about the field I plan to work in and have gained a real working experience.

There are always challenges in the workplace, and in a small business I would say the amount of time and scheduling was the worst thing.  With me having a busy student schedule and the employer having a busy work schedule, the time slot set up was sometimes difficult to work with.  Also, I feel that there is so much more to learn from spending more time in the work environment. Many of my available hours were also during their busiest times, but this helped me to become more flexible with time scheduling and management. I learned not only skills in the areas of accounting and management, but also skills such as team work, communication with others, and time management and scheduling. The people were amazing! They were so much fun to work with and so helpful.  Everyone wanted to make sure I was comfortable and enjoyed what I was doing!

When the time comes to begin my job search, I can present the skills I developed not only by listing what my internship was and what my tasks entail, but also by expressing to them how the experience was valuable and will help me to grow and advance in future work environments.

Internships are totally worth the effort! A great way to learn while applying classroom experience to the working world. This was a wonderful learning experience.  I gained insight into my future career field and had fun doing it! I would recommend it to everyone!
