"A Book About Death: Life"

An international art exhibition of original artworks expressing feelings about death and a celebration of life.

The exhibit at large includes three exhibits within the gallery:

Exhibit I
"A Book About Death: Life" includes the original "Book About Death" project by Matthew Rose  plus new submissions.

A Book About Death exhibit originated at the Emily Harvey Foundation Gallery in NYC in September 2009. This exhibit, ABAD, was conceived by artist Matthew Rose, which included nearly 500 pages of original designs by international artists on the subject of death .

Since the 2009 debut, the ABAD project has taken a on a remarkable life. It continues to travel the world, appearing in museums and galleries across the US, Brazil, Belgium, Croatia, Sarajevo, Italy and the United Kingdom. An unbound ABAD (Emily Harvey Foundation Gallery 2009) book is in the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art in NYC, MoMA Wales and the Los Angeles County Museum of Art Research Library.

Exhibit II
"Selected Works by Ray Johnson" : Ray Johnson, the pioneering American collage artist, who created the original and unpaginated A Book About Death. Works on loan from the Black Mountain College Museum and Arts Center.

Exhibit III
"Wailing Wall": In memory and celebration of the lives of two PC students lost in the Fall semester, Sarah and Lea.


A work in progress, like life and death. Artist Call for submissions need to arrive by February 10th to be included in exhibition and reception.

The Elizabeth Stone Harper Art Gallery is located in the Harper Center for the Arts and is open daily from noon until 5:00 pm when Presbyterian College is in session.
