Student Volunteer Services

Former religion professor, counselor, and chaplain Dr. Jack Presseau organized SVS in the mid 1960's. He saw it as a way for the college to truly embrace volunteerism as a mission. In the first SVS project a group of students from Presseau's Christian Education class mentored mill-area children at Todd Memorial Presbyterian Church in Laurens.

More than forty years later SVS is regarded as one of the signature ministries of the college. The student-led organization includes more than two dozen programs, with PC students helping many in need in the community. As many as half the student body typically volunteer in at least one program during an academic year.

Alum saves a life with Project Life

“Before I learned about the bone marrow registry at PC, I really didn't know about it at all,” McGavin said. “It's such a simple thing you can do to help someone else so much, and in many cases it will save a life. Why wouldn't anyone want to do this?”
