Providence Presbytery Meeting
The Rev. Joan Gray, Moderator of the 217th General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church (USA) and PC Graduate completed visits to all five SC Presbyteries this week when she was the guest of and preacher at the meeting of Providence Presbytery in Camden. During the meeting she visited the PC display to meet with Jim Simpson, Director of Church Relations. In her address to the Presbytery, Joan talked about growing up in Aiken County, SC, and the formative role that PC played in her life. As mentors she gave special mention to the late Tom Stallworth and George Ramsey. As Moderator, Joan shared news of the national church and encouraged all present to offer “even the little they have” to God and with hope and expectation look for God to work using what we offer. The 218th General Assembly will convene in June 2008 in San Jose, CA and will elect the next Moderator, bringing to a conclusion the Rev. Gray’s busy and demanding two-year term as Moderator.
In his remarks to Providence Presbytery, Jim Simpson paid tribute to Joan Gray’s work as Moderator, recognizing her as one of Presbyterian College’s most visible and highly-respect graduates. Other topics brought to the attention of those present included plans for Youth Day on November 15, 2008, the PC Choir Tour and the decision by the College’s Board of Trustees to launch the new PC Pharmacy School.
