Presbyterian College expresses its relationship with the Presbyterian Church, USA in many ways: the selection and composition of the Board of Trustees, the selection of administrative leadership and faculty, the design of the academic program, the scope and focus of the campus ministry program, a pervasive commitment to honor and service, the placement of graduates in church vocations, to name a few. The parameters of this relationship is spelled out in several written documents: The Bylaws of Presbyterian College, the Purpose Statement, the current Covenant with the Synod of South Atlantic, and the current Vision Statement.
The Commission is charged with:
- Examining the policies, programs, priorities, and future plans of Presbyterian College in light of the current Covenant and in line with the Purpose (mission) and Vision Statements.
- Identifying those aspects of current practice that enhance the faithful fulfillment of the Covenant. (There may well be practices identified that are exemplary and are not included in the Covenant. Appropriately, these should be included.)
- Formulating recommendations to strengthen the Covenant relationship in light of the Purpose and Vision Statements.
- Conducting an open and balanced exploration of these matters by seeking broad input from appropriate constituencies and sharing preliminary findings with these constituencies before formulating a final report.
- Submitting findings in the form of a written report to the President of the College on or before April 30, 2005.
The Commission will use a committee structure to respond to this charge. Thus, an understanding of the scope of each committees work is essential.
- The Academic Program Committee is charged with examining the curriculum and qualifications for membership on the faculty in light of the current Covenant and in line with the Purpose and Vision Statements.
- The Student Life and Campus Ministry Committee is charged with examining all co-curricular programs in light of the same.
- The Leadership Development and Service to the Church Committee is charged with examining the Colleges efforts to develop Christian leaders for the full range of vocations and to serve the needs of the PCUSA in light of the same.
- The Consultation/Commission Coordinating Committee is charged with facilitating communication, information exchange, and overall cooperation between the Consultation directed by Trinity Presbytery on behalf of the Synod of South Atlantic and the Commission.
