Chinese corner last Thursday, March 13th, 2014, was Chinese Movie Night. The Confucius Institute and students celebrated Chinese culture in a new and entertaining way that hasn’t been used so far this year. The students watched the 2010 movie The Karate Kid with Jaden Smith and Jackie Chan. However in order to introduce some important themes, Chinese Instructor Bin Li presented a PowerPoint that pointed out several traditional activities we would see in the film so that the students would know what they were. For example Bin Li explained traditional Chinese shadow puppets. It was a fun and enjoyable to learn about Chinese culture while watching a popular movie that is always a fan-favorite. The students can’t wait to see another Chinese film and the Confucius Institute hopes to see you at the next Chinese Corner!
