Guizhou University Delegation Visits PC

On October 17, 2012 PC was honored by a visit from a Guizhou University Delegation. The delegation consisted of five faculty and staff members from Guizhou University: The executive vice president Dr. Xiaolun Feng, the assistant president Professor Shuxin Xiao, the Director of Human Resources Mr. Qinxian Shi, the Dean of the Fines Arts Department Professor Heng Xu, and Professor Jingmin He from the Chinese Department .

Upon their arrival the delegation travelled to Spartanburg to visit a Confucius classroom and took time to speak with the children. Shortly after their visits in Spartanburg, the delegation arrived at PC and visited the Chinese classroom. Warm smiles and laughter filled the room as students made a warm welcome and spoke with them in Chinese. In the afternoon, the delegation and the provost Dr. Gustafson as well as the American director and Chinese Director of Confucius Institute had a meeting. Listening to the working report of Confucius Institute at PC and exchanging views on Confucius Institute’s work, the two sides agreed to work as in the past to support the program and they wish to continue building a bridge of friendship.

From 3 pm to 5pm the Dean of Fines Arts Department at Guizhou, Professor Heng Xu, entertained and educated PC students on Chinese Painting techniques. His lecture and demonstration on Chinese painting techniques was held at Harper Gallery. Students were able enjoy his talents and skills while learning more about Chinese painting techniques.
At 6pm a formal banquet was held in Harper Gallery which hosted around thirty five people. American students played the Chinese National Anthem to welcome the delegation and Dr. Thomas, Professor of cello, played beautiful music. More students sang a beautiful song of the United States to add a festive atmosphere to the banquet. The provost of PC gave a wonderful speech welcoming the delegation to PC followed by a sincere expression of thanks from the executive Vice President of Guizhou University. Gifts were presented following the speeches.

Towards the ending of the meal, the Chinese 202 class sang a song for the delegation the song is titled “Yue Liang Dai Biao Wo de Xin” or “The Moon stands for my Heart”. The outstanding performance was a heartfelt and perfect end to the banquet.
With so much to see the delegation then set off for Springs after the banquet. Here they watched students practice Tai Chi and took photos with them. After seeing all the work that the Confucius Institute at PC puts into educating PC students on Chinese language, culture and history, the delegation must be very proud and satisfied. The future for PC and Guizhou looks bright and promising.
