The Fifth Palmetto Chinese Star Contest

Where: Edmunds Hall, Presbyterian College, 503 S Broad St. Clinton, SC, 29325

When: February 22, 2014, from 1p.m.-5p.m.

Application deadline: Feb 7, 2014

Eligibility:  American citizen, age younger than 30, currently enrolled in a school in SC state (individual applications will not be accepted).

 Competition levels: Level One: elementary; Level Two: advanced. Pre-college students are entitled to  “Future Palmetto Chinese Star” competition, i.e. the Level One contest.

Categories: A: Language Proficiency  (speech, poem recital, PowerPoint report, etc.) and B: Cultural Performance (vocal and instrumental music, martial arts, calligraphy, taichi, etc.). Contenders may choose either or both categories. Those wishing to be considered for the grand prize must win the advanced level in both categories.

Competition duration: Each contender is given five minutes in either category.

Competing group: Contenders are allowed to compete in groups but the number of people in each group should not exceed three.

Prizes: In each category at  each level, there are 1st, 2nd, and 3rd prizes . The Grand Prize is a winner in both categories, who is eligible to participate in the US final in Washington, DC. Winners at the US final will be sent to China for the global contest. Expenses incurred by the national and global contests will be covered.
