State Academic-Based Scholarships

If you're a South Carolina resident at the time of your high school graduation and college enrollment, you may qualify for one of these academic-based scholarships provided by the state:

Palmetto Fellows Scholarship

($6,700 for the freshman year, $7,500 for sophomores, juniors & seniors)
(awarded a maximum of 8 consecutive semesters)

Initial Eligibility Requirements: (must meet all three criteria to be considered)

Earn a 3.5 GPA at the end of high school junior year (state uniform grading scale)
Score at least 1200 on the SAT or 27 ACT equivalent
Rank in the top 6% of the class at the end of sophomore or junior year

Alternate Initial Eligibility Requirements:
(must meet all criteria to be considered)

Score at least 1400 on the SAT or 32 ACT equivalent
Earn a 4.0 GPA at the end of high school junior year (state uniform grading scale)

Additional Requirements:

Submit application to SC Commission on Higher Education
Enroll as a full-time student*

Continued Eligibility Requirements:

Maintain 3.0 PC GPA
Earn at least 30 credit hours per academic year

 

Palmetto Fellows Scholarship Enhancement
(additional $2,500 per academic year for sophomores, juniors & seniors)

 

Eligibility Requirements: (must meet all criteria to be considered)

Maintain continued Palmetto Fellows Scholarship eligibility
Must earn at least 14 credit hours of instruction in math or life and physical sciences or a combination of both by the end of your college freshman year
Declare an eligible major in a math or science field by the DROP/ADD date of your Sophomore year.

Life Scholarship
($5,000 per academic year, for up to 8 consecutive semesters)

 

Initial Eligibility Requirements: (must meet two of the three following criteria)

Earn a 3.0 final high school GPA (state uniform grading scale)
Score at least 1100 on the SAT or 24 ACT equivalent
Rank in the top 30% of your high school graduating class

Additional Requirement:

Enroll as a full-time student*
Continued Eligibility Requirements: Calculating Your Life GPA

Earn an average of 30 credit hours per academic year
Maintain a 3.0 Life GPA each academic year

You may take summer classes at another institution in order to affect your LIFE GPA. These courses MUST BE APPROVED by PC Registrar.

 

Life Scholarship Enhancement
(additional $2,500 per academic year for sophomores, juniors & seniors)

Eligibility Requirements: (must meet all criteria to be considered)

Maintain continued Life Scholarship eligibility.
Must earn at least 14 credit hours of instruction in math or life and physical sciences or a combination of both by the end of your college freshman year.
Declare an eligible major in a math or science field by the DROP/ADD date of your Sophomore year.

South Carolina HOPE Scholarship
(one-time grant of $2,800 for first-time entering freshmen)

Initial Eligibility Requirement:

Earn a 3.0 Final High School GPA (state uniform grading scale)

Additional Requirement:

Enroll as a full-time student*
