I'm thrilled that the time has arrived that we now can begin the fund raising campaigns to address the facility needs for both baseball & softball. I look forward to putting together the teams that will make these facilities a reality. I'm confident that the PC family will respond to this challenge with enthusiasm and generosity!

PC Baseball shows plenty of fight and promise against top teams
by Stacy Dyer '96
In their first year playing a full DI schedule, the Blue Hose have shown plenty of fight and promise competing against some of the top teams in the country.
Playing in front of nearly 3000 at USC's Sarge Frye Field, PC lost 2-1 to the #5 Gamecocks. PC actually led the game 1-0, thanks to William Bolchoz's home run in the third inning. The Blue Hose held USC scoreless through five before the Gamecocks tied the game. The Blue Hose and Gamecocks found themselves in a defensive struggle, tied at 1, after nine. USC then scored in the bottom of the 10th to win 2-1.
Two days later PC traveled to then 8-4 Tennessee and gave an even gutsier performance in front of over 1000. Down 5-0 after two innings, PC cut the lead to 5-4 with a pair of two-run innings in the fourth and fifth innings. Freshman Nate Horton put the Blue Hose up 6-5 in the sixth win a bases-loaded single. The Volunteers took the lead 7-6 after scoring two runs in the bottom of the seventh. PC's Steven Henry delivered an RBI single in the ninth to tie the game at 7 apiece. Tennessee, like USC, then scored in the bottom of the tenth to win by one, 8-7.
After two close calls PC faced Michigan in a tournament in Myrtle Beach. Horton sacrificed Robbie Anders in in the first inning after an Anders triple. Michigan scored five unanswered to take a 5-1 lead. Mitchell Odom struck out three and gave up only three hits. In the ninth Horton added his second double of the game, singling in Corey Lyda.
Already this young season the Blue Hose have plenty to hang their hats on: they almost beat the #5 team in the country, they matched Tennessee's seven runs on eleven hits through regular innings, and they held Michigan to only five hits.
