"Upgrading the baseball facilities will immediately improve our recruiting. With so many other baseball programs pouring money into their facilities, recruiting is extremely competitive. We wish to compete in every aspect of the game and on every level. Upgrading our baseball facility is a big part of moving in the right direction. Additionally, an upgraded facility will bring our baseball alumni and other PC supporters back to Clinton, South Carolina. It could potentially allow us to create home and away relations with schools such as USC and Clemson, thus creating revenue for PC and the community. The time has definitely arrived to move forward with this endeavor."- Elton Pollock, PC Head Baseball Coach
When the Blue Hose baseball team suited up in 1895, baseball became the first intercollegiate sport played at PC. Softball, historically an intramural sport, became a part of PC athletics beginning with the 1997-98 season.
The current baseball and softball facilities were built in 1989. While they are standard Division II facilties, neither matches up to the facilities that Blue Hose baseball and softball players will play in at the DI level. They don't have Division I-type structures, and they lack the atmosphere found in D-I baseball and softball stadiums. The lackluster complexes will make it difficult to recruit players who want to compete in Division I. With such a rich baseball tradition and a growing softball tradition, Blue Hose Athletics deserves upgraded facilities.
