"Allowing us to improve our scholarship numbers is simply going to make us more competitive. Making the move to Division I was very bold. And as we increase our budget and resources, we will improve tremendously. Our teams are doing a good job competing now and with fewer scholarships than our competition. With an increase in scholarships, you will see a rise in athleticism and competitiveness." - Bobby Bentley, Head Football Coach
NCAA Division I requirements for athletic scholarships are as tough as Blue Hose transition year athletic schedules. Consider these numbers:
- The maximum number of scholarships for competition in Division I is 207.
- PC needs to have 80% of this number, or 167 scholarships, in order to be eligible for championships in the 2011-2012 season.
- PC now has 127 athletic scholarships, which is 60% of the DI requirement.
- 40 more scholarships will make PC championship-eligible.
- 80 more scholarships could give PC the ability to not only match Big South foes pound for pound, but could attract athletes for our 16 Blue Hose teams who can suit up and compete against the likes of USC, Clemson, and UGA.
The cost to fully endow a scholarship is $700,000. Endowed scholarships are perpetual and will continue to support our student-athletes for the life of the College.
