Derek Moore ’11

Derek Moore was a history major from Fort Drum, NY. He was also a member of Campus Outreach and ROTC, and worked as an intern in Pastoral Ministries with Westminster Presbyterian Church here in Clinton.

Why did you choose to come to PC and major in history?

I came to PC to do ROTC and because I liked the size and atmosphere of the school when I visited. I chose to be a history major fall of my sophomore year after taking classes with Dr. Nelson and Dr. Heiser and enjoying both of their classes a lot. I was interested in history because I didn’t know very much about it, but I felt that understanding history would provide a good foundation for whatever I did in the future, which I was uncertain about at the time.

How would you describe your experience in the PC history department?

I have loved the history department. The professors are great and I have learned a ton, not only about the facts of history, but how to write and communicate, formulate a good argument and back it up, and how to do responsible research.

What advice would you give to students coming to PC and majoring in history?

Do it.

Upon graduating from PC, Derek planned to attend seminary and then enter the army as a chaplain.
