Assistant Director of Career Programs

Working collaboratively with the campus community, the Office of Career Programs & Student Development focuses on helping students gain skills in vocational planning and decision-making. The office facilitates internship programs in support of academic objectives, and creates relationships with employers and alumni to foster opportunities for the students. The position of Assistant Director of Career Programs will work with students from freshman through senior year.  As a member of the Department of Student Life, the AD will also work on student development initiatives such as new student orientation.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • 3 years of full time work experience in higher education student development, student counseling, staff development, placement services or related profession
  • Master's Degree in Student Affairs, Human Resources Mgt, or similar preferred
  • Successful candidate will possess strong interpersonal, communication (writing, speaking, presenting), organization and time management skills, effectively work individually and collaboratively with students/faculty/staff and employers, and have technology aptitude related to office products and web research
  • Evening and weekend hours occasionally required

Responsibilities:

Reporting to the Associate Dean of Career Programs & Student Development, the Assistant Director will:

  • advise students individually and in groups to provide vocational planning, career decision-making and job search assistance for employment and/or graduate/professional schools,
  • review and edit resume/cover letter packages and provide interview critique and assessment,
  • create and lead or facilitate workshops and programs/events for students regardless of major or vocational interest using a variety of delivery methods,
  • additional responsibilities include new student orientation planning and other Student Life initiatives as needed based on qualifications and interest

Areas of Concentration:

  • Individual Counseling & Workshops; Assessment, Informational Interview, Major/Minor, Career Choices, Resume, Job Search, Mock Interviews
  • Career Fairs, Employer Relations; Summer Jobs, Internships, Career, Graduate School, Teacher Recruitment
  • Professional Development through state and regional associations as applicable
  • Additional areas/projects as assigned by the Associate Dean
