Presbyterian College invites applications for a tenure-track position in Elementary Education to begin Fall 2014. Responsibilities include teaching undergraduate elementary math and science methods and foundation courses; teaching and supervising in field experience and clinical practice; engaging in scholarly activities and research; and, providing service to the department and local schools.
Qualifications: A Ph.D. in Elementary Education, Math Education, Science Education, or a closely related field is preferred (ABD considered). A minimum of three years successful teaching in public school grades 2 – 6 is required.
Preference will be given to candidates who have successfully taught grades 2 – 6 as well as elementary science and math methods courses at the college level; familiarity with school/college partnerships; experience with diverse student populations; ability to work collaboratively with colleagues; and, the ability to use instructional technology.
Department: The Education Department at Presbyterian College offer programs in Early Childhood Education (Pre-K – 3rd grade), Elementary Education (2nd – 6th grade), Middle Level Education (5th – 8th grade), Secondary Education (9th – 12th grade), and Music Education (Pre-K – 12th grade). All teacher education programs lead to certification and are nationally accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE), the South Carolina State Department of Education, and Specialized Professional Associations. In addition, programs emphasize experiential learning, supportive relationships between students and professors, small interactive classes, and opportunities for students to volunteer, study abroad, conduct research, present at conferences, and continue on to graduate school.
