Secondary Education Professor (Tenure Track)
Presbyterian College invites applications for a tenure-track position in Secondary Education to begin the fall of 2010. Duties include teaching general methods courses for secondary teachers; education foundation courses; geography courses; supervision of field and student teaching experiences; advising students; collaborating with public schools; and providing service to the college and community.
Preference will be given to applicants who have expertise in secondary social studies, experience working with diverse student populations, and familiarity with NCATE and NCSS Standards. Candidates must have a minimum of 3 years teaching experience in public schools at the secondary level. A doctorate in Social Studies or Curriculum and Instruction with an emphasis in Social Studies is preferred. ABD will be considered.
Position: The successful candidate will be able to teach education courses (including geography, secondary methods and foundation courses) and supervise practicum field and student teaching experiences at the secondary level. In addition, the candidate is expected to work collaboratively with faculty and schools, advise undergraduate students, engage in scholarly activities and provide service to the college and community. Preference will be given to applicants who have expertise in secondary social studies, experience working with diverse student populations and familiarity with NCATE and secondary specialized professional associations (SPA). A minimum of 3 years teaching experience in public schools is required. A doctorate in Social Studies or Curriculum and Instruction is preferred; ABDs will be considered.
Department: The Education Department at Presbyterian College offers programs in Early Childhood Education (preK-3rd grade), Middle Level Education (5th-8th grade), Secondary Education (9th-12th grade), Music Education (preK-12th grade) and Spanish Education (preK-12th grade). All teacher education programs lead to certification and are nationally accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE), the South Carolina State Department of Education, and Specialized Professional Associations. In addition, programs emphasize experiential learning, supportive relationships between students and professors, small interactive classes, and opportunities for students to volunteer, study abroad, conduct research, present at conferences and continue onto teaching careers and/or graduate school.
