Economic Business Administration / Marketing (Tenure track)
Position: Presbyterian College invites applications for a tenure-track marketing position in the Department of Economics and Business Administration to begin in the fall of 2010. The successful candidate is expected to teach Principles and other marketing courses some of which can depend on the candidate's interests and areas of expertise. An ability and willingness to teach Strategic Management is preferred.The successful candidate will also be expected to advise students, supervise student internships, continue professional development, and provide service as necessary to the Department of Economics and Business Administration, the college, and the greater community. A Ph.D. and teaching experience are preferred, though ABDs will be considered.
Department: The Department of Economics and Business Administration consists of eight full time faculty. One of the largest departments in terms of majors, it offers students the opportunity to pursue interests in business administration within a liberal arts environment. The department offers a major in business administration with concentrations in management, accounting, and economics. The department also offers a major in economics. Minors are offered in business administration, accounting, and economics. Departmental faculty have the opportunity to develop study abroad opportunities, and these programs have been very successful. Graduates of the Department typically continue their studies in graduate school or pursue careers in business, government, or the non-profit sector.
The College: Founded in 1880, Presbyterian College is a four-year undergraduate, selective, residential liberal arts college. Its 240-acre, neo-Georgian campus includes several buildings on the National Register. The College offers 26 majors and a variety of minors, several of them interdisciplinary. It is currently implementing a new general education program that includes a freshman seminar and a senior capstone course. It is also the home of a Confucius Institute. It has a long-standing Honor tradition and a required concert and lecture series. The College is easily accessible by interstate highways; it is 40 miles from Greenville, 35 miles from Spartanburg, and 50 miles from Columbia.
The Faculty: The faculty consists of 89 full-time members, 95% of whom hold terminal degrees. The student faculty ratio is 13:1. Faculty teach 7 courses per year; the average class size is 15. Six faculty have been selected as the South Carolina CASE Professor of the Year; seven have been awarded Fulbright Fellowships. Faculty are supported by a generous development program.
The Student Body: The College is projected to enroll over 1196 students, with a record sized entering class of 364. The average SAT score of this class is 1136; the average high school GPA is 3.4 (on a recalculated 4.0 scale). Sixty-four percent are from South Carolina. Presbyterian College students have been the recipients of the Rhodes, Hansard, and Javits Fellowships. The College has a large student volunteer program, Student Volunteer Services, begun in the 1970s.
The Religious Affiliation: The College is affiliated with the Presbyterian Church (USA). It welcomes faculty of any Christian denomination as well as faculty of other religious traditions. It has a dynamic extra-curricular religious life program and an impressive record of preparing graduates for vocations in the Christian ministry, Christian education, and church music. It is known for Celtic Cross, a program of cultivation for lay leadership that has served as a model for several other colleges.
